Cookie Information

Last updated: 29 May 2026

This page explains how StackCompass uses cookies and similar storage, and how you can control them. We split usage into strictly necessary storage and optional analytics that load only after you give consent.

Strictly Necessary Storage

These are required for the site to work and do not need consent. They are stored locally in your browser and are not shared with third parties:

Name Purpose Type / Retention
stackcompass-theme Remembers your light / dark theme choice. localStorage · until cleared
stackcompass-cookie-consent Stores your cookie choice so we don't ask again. localStorage · until cleared

Analytics (Consent Required)

We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to understand aggregate traffic. GA4 may load directly or through Google Tag Manager, depending on the active site configuration. None of this loads until you click Accept in the cookie banner. If you click Reject, the analytics scripts are not injected and any previously loaded analytics state is removed.

When analytics is enabled, Google Analytics 4 sets the following cookies:

Name Purpose Retention
_ga Distinguishes unique visitors. 2 years
_ga_<container-id> Persists the GA4 session state. 2 years

Data collected through GA4 is processed by Google and may be transferred outside the European Economic Area. See our Privacy Policy for details on legal basis, processors, and your rights.

Managing Your Preferences

You can withdraw or change your consent at any time using the Cookie settings button, or by clearing this site's data in your browser. Most browsers also let you block or delete cookies globally in their privacy settings.
